All things considered

I just listened to this today, on my way back home… I don’t know if I am supposed to laugh, cry, or what:

Christine Balfa: 55 Minutes Of Solo Triangle

How about this line:

It’s hard to imagine that nobody thought of an idea this great before.

It would be a killer in a Saturday Night Live skit. And then, how about this quote, that I could swear comes straight from The Onion:

“Triangles have been important to mankind for a long time, ever since Pythagoras and the great pyramids, and cave paintings have triangles on them,” Justus says. “Triangles are a big part of our humanity and our culture.”

I just CAN’T STAND All things considered. The problem is, the only alternative during my evening commute seems to be Jay Severin. I keep switching back and forth trying to get informed as I filter out the exagerations of Severin and the snobbish, obnoxious tone of Melissa Block and Michele Norris; the ultra conservative comments of Severin, and the hypocritical style of Block and Norris (I can usually listen to Siegel without getting upset, though).

This is not about NPR or WTKK in general. I love Marketplace, and Krulwich on Science is simply fabulous. I think Jim Braude’s show on WTKK is very good (and his TV show on NECN is first rate). But… can someone please STOP All things considered?

PS (the day after): I know, I can stop it by simply turning the radio off or switching to a music station. I often do. And I think I will do it again, at least for some time. And no matter how much I dislike the show, as long as they have ratings, the show should go on —this is a free country after all.
